TEEN PLAY WRITING CLASSES
AT THE GORILLA THEATRE
The Gorilla Theatre, as part of their annual Young Dramatists Project, is now offering a course which focuses on the actual writing of scripts for the theatre. This Young Dramatists Script Building Class will consist of ten classes taught by James Rayfield, YDP Artistic Director.
YOUNG DRAMATISTS SCRIPT BUILDING - For Ages 13-18
CLASS DESCRIPTION
The classes will focus on taking young dramatists imagination from the tantalizing idea to the finished stage ready play. Class work will employ improvisational writing exercises which explore such concerns as exposition, characters, plotting, and dialogue. Eventually from working on these brief scenes the authors will move on to write a one-act play that is suitable for submission to the Gorilla Theatre's Young Dramatists Project where the authors will have a change to have their plays selected for a full production.
Students do not have to have any experience in writing for the class, but they must have a willingness to explore their own world and find the best means to put some of that world on stage.
During class students will spend time writing and sharing their work with others for feedback. Rather than lecturing the students, the instructor will present exercises which give the students hands-on experience in solving the challenges of good writing for the theatre. There will assignments which will require some writing outside of class to complete and some class time will be spent examining examples of good playwriting.
Class will meet at the Gorilla Theatre near Legends Field on Mondays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be ten classes and students need to be between 14 and 18 years of age to enroll. Tuition will be $200. To enroll and for more information contact Bridget Bean at (813) 354-0550.
